Senator Andy Vidak (R-Hanford) issued the following statement today in response to the latest “new and improved” High Speed Rail business plan and projected costs report:
“Initially a rat-hole, now a sink hole, soon it will be an abyss in which more and more tax dollars are forever lost. I speak of the never ending scam called High Speed Rail.
“I respect Brian Kelly – the newest and latest CEO for HSR – but even he can’t save this snakebit project that just keeps getting worse and worse over time.
“Higher and higher costs along with more and more missed deadlines.
“Taxpayers have seen this act and these hollow promises before:
- In 2013 the headline was ‘High-speed rail board adopts policy to manage construction costs.’
- In 2016, it was ‘High-speed rail agency says construction costs under scrutiny, control.’
- Today’s it’s ‘HSR new chief executive is promising more transparency with the public about its challenges.’
“Please Governor, put all of us taxpayers out of our misery.
“Let’s cut our losses and use the billions not yet wasted on HSR to instead improve freeways, highways and roads and perhaps improve existing rail systems throughout California.”
