Newly-elected Senator Andy Vidak (R-Hanford) thanked his family, friends and supporters today, during his ceremonial swearing in on the floor of the California State Senate:
"Thank you to my family and friends that made the trip to be here to celebrate today with us," said Vidak, who also praised Senate President pro tempore Darrel Steinberg, his new senate colleagues, and the senate staff for their welcome and professionalism.
Vidak, who drew strong bi-partisan support to be elected to represent Senate District 16 after tough fights in both the primary and general elections, turned to a California icon to sum up his feelings of the day:
"I doubt I'm the first Senator to quote The Grateful Dead, but what a long, strange trip it's been. And now I'm here and ready to go to work. As I told the people of the district Saturday when I was sworn in on the steps of the historic Hanford Civic Auditorium, I come to Sacramento armed with a smile, a handshake and my common sense," said Vidak. "I look forward to sitting down with each and every one of my colleagues here to learn about you and your districts and then find ways we can work together to make life better for the people of California."
