Sacramento – Senator Andy Vidak (R-Hanford) today sent the following letter urging Governor Brown to remove Isadore Hall from the Agricultural Labor Relations Board (ALRB):
March 30, 2017
The Honorable Jerry Brown
Governor of California
State Capitol, First Floor
Sacramento, CA 95814
Dear Governor Brown:
I am writing to request that you immediately withdraw your appointment of Agricultural Labor Relations Board (ALRB) member Isadore Hall.
Hall’s widely reported behavior as an ALRB member since your appointment of him in January has been highly offensive, inappropriate and probably criminal.
On February 28, the evening before his Senate Rules Committee confirmation hearing, numerous witnesses reported that Hall launched into an obscenity-laced tirade during which he threatened “to get” farmers that were opposed to his confirmation. Unfortunately none of this was even discussed at Hall’s confirmation hearing the next morning but it has since become public.
Hall still only received the bare minimum three votes in the Senate Rules Committee necessary to send his confirmation to the Floor where it is now pending. Given all the softballs lobbed to Hall at his confirmation hearing it more closely resembled a family picnic in the park rather than an actual vetting session anyway.
There have been calls to investigate the Hall incident before the full Senate votes on his confirmation. Unfortunately, so far the Senate Leadership has refused to deal with their “see no evil, hear no evil” attitude in Hall’s case.
Ultimately, the Senate itself will have to deal with its compromised confirmation process.
In the meantime, Hall is still your unconfirmed appointee and he is representing you and your administration. Governor, you either agree with Hall using his appointed position to threaten people . . . or you don’t.
Further, you are in a position to make clear your position by withdrawing Hall’s appointment to the ALRB before he is confirmed by the full Senate. I encourage you to do this immediately.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
