Sacramento – State Senator Andy Vidak (R-Hanford) issued the following statement about reports of recent DACA discussions between President Trump and Congressional leaders of both parties:
“The previous administration preferred to enact major policy changes through Executive Orders or party-line votes rather than through bipartisan negotiations, and our country suffered for it.
“For too long comprehensive immigration reform has been neglected by our leaders in Washington.
“Perhaps we are witnessing another ‘Only Nixon could go to China’ moment where President Trump can break through the past partisan gridlock on immigration issues.
“Hopefully these negotiations will lead to a consensus agreement between President Trump, Senate Majority Leader McConnell, Senate Minority Leader Schumer, House Speaker Ryan and House Minority Leader Pelosi.”
